Timer Schrade
knife questions?
i have a schrade pocket kniffe, i cant any where find the steel number thing, like 440 or w.e so i was wondering does schrade all use the same number?> if so can some one tell me?
and my knife is X-Timer-B
depends on when and where it was made
guess probably 440A if it is a few years old
most of the larger knife companies had their own steel name - "Schrade Steel" might be an example
they might use 440C for several years then switch to something else
think a lot of better names used 440C for years then started using 440A when they could get it cheaper and had a better heat treatment so it made a good blade
recently quite a few have changed to 420 HC
they still make good blades - may have a lot to do with heat treatment since the 440A blades were high quality and I remember when it used to be disparaged as a knife steel
Schrade went out of business in 2004 and now Taylor is using the name - most or all of the new knives are imported (mostly China) but are still supposed to be good quality
