Is the colsteel vg-1 steel buterfly knife legal in Ca?
I wanted to buy this older model buterfly knife and did not know if it was legal.(Cant recall the name of the knife at the moment but its the older modle buterfly knife not the new 2009 modle) I ussually come across thing they sell at places like guns shows and they tend to be illegal which fusterates me why they even sell these things that are eliigal in California please help.

If you are asking about the Cold Steel VG-1, that is not a butterfly knife, it is a kukri, which is a fixed blade knife. It would be classified as a dirk or dagger under California law, and would be illegal to carry concealed on your person. (Pen C 12020.) Due to the length of the blade, it would be illegal to possess in public buildings or school grounds.
ADD: The Triple Action is not a butterfly knife, either, as I understand the term. You can flip a butterfly (or balisong) knife open, as the two halves of the cover and the end of the blade are all hinged at the same point, so the blade is quickly exposed as it is with a switchblade. The triple action's cover is hinged at opposite ends, so you have to open one half, then use a thumb stud to expose the blade. That would not fit the definition of a butterfly knife, nor would it be a dirk or dagger unless it was open with the blade fixed in place. However, there may still be restrictions upon possession in schools and public buildings.
