Alright well first yes you must stick with a theme. Many people confuse a theme with an archetype such as BW or Lightsworn. Although those are themes they also have strategies. So when I say theme I mean a strategy to defeating your opponent. A deck should have one win condition and multiple ways of acheiving it. Here the win condition (as it is for most decks) is attacking your opponent until they are out of LP, however we lack surefire ways of acquiring that condition. So since we know that, Exodia must be taken out, because that's an alternate strategy and although it can win for you it will get in your way. So take them out unless you dedicate a deck to them. Second there are a few ways to go about Dark magician, but you can't combine them all and hope for the best. You can go about it the fusion way, or you can play spellcasters (which can win without D.M) or the best way to play, is Diamond Magician which uses Diamond Dude to drop all of DM's support for easy summoning and swarming (The support being Swing of memories, Thousand Knives, Dark Magic Curtain, Knights Title, Sage's Stone, Dark Magic Attack) Notice all of those are normal spells, meaning our Diamond friend can utilize them all. If you can collect the cards for that deck I would make that one, (I did it in a day, the only thing that is hard to get is Elemental hero Prisma to act as DM for Swing to work, and so you can use any DM support in your hand. Dark Magician Knight and Knight's Title are fairly easy to get and the rest are common.) From your deck it seems like you want a Spellcaster Deck, focusing on Spell Counters which is also a fine way to go, but I wouldn't use DM. In a few Weeks Breaker will be unlimited so your deck should look something like this:

3x Threatening roar (To help stock up on counters. With defender out it will be harder to destroy your Spellcasters and the more counters you stock the easier to keep them)
Alright so this deck is pretty straight forward. Marionette for monsters, Breaker for S/T, Defender for... defense!
