Folding Clip
Folding Clip

support a paper clip purely by a coin...need more ideas please
?
I was wondering how would you support a piece of paper off a table with purely a coin to support a paper clip from a desk. I was wondering if anyone had any more complex ideas, rather than just folding the paper and connecting it to make a long structure.
Rules: You are not allowed to use anything to glue the structure, therefore no glue, sticky tape, staplers...etc.
You are ONLY allowed to use ONE PIECE OF PAPER...normal A4 printer paper, but u can tear, cut and manipulate this piece of paper in any way you wish.
You have to make the structure out of paper as stable and long as possible.
Does anyone have any additional ideas apart from the typical folding the paper to create ripples or folding it to form a V-shaped structure?
Does anyone have any complex ideas to form this structure? photos or videos would help also, but are not essential.
Thankyou for your help in advance
What this lab seems to want you to think about is the center of gravity.
To balance the paper/coin on the edge of a table you want the center of gravity to be directly underneath the point on the table where the paper clip is holding it. Here is the way I would do it to show off my understanding:
1) bend paperclip into large "C" shape
2) put the coin on the paper and fold the paper around it.
3) stab a hole into the paper with the paper clip near the middle
4) move the coin around until it balances itself.
Alternatively you can consider the reaction of the center of gravity around the pivot point of the paper clip instead. For this you would fold off one end of the paper tube, drop the coin inside, and then pierce the end of the paper tube with the paper clip edge. (This is why people who tightrope walk hold the weight really far below them or really far away from their center of gravity so they have more control.)
