Upgrading my kitchen knives. Advice?
Hello everyone,
I had owned a couple of set of Faber-ware knives sets (do not judge LOL!) and I'm well over due for an upgrade.
Can anyone advice on a quality brand that will last more than a 2-3 years? I'm not interested in any brands such as Faber-ware or Correlle. I'm really looking for an upgrade, but I do not know what brand to choose.
I've seen a few brands that have caught my eye: Chicago Cutlery, J.A. Henkels, Messermeister. I even though about the affordable Ginsu.
Any experienced chefs and foodies can advise me about a good knives set? My budget is $300.
Thank you
I own Wusthof Grand Prix knives, which I love very much. But in reading all of my issues of Cooks Illustrated, they publish results of equipment testing and recommend Forschner Victorinox with the Fibrox Handle. I purchased several knives for my daughter, and I must admit, they are really great!
the Forschner 8" chef knife is around $30, and is rated extremely well, and recommended over Wusthof due to cost. You will need a steel, 8" chef, 3" paring knife, I love my birds beak paring knife, a 8"slicing knife, and 4-6 inch utility knife. I also have a 10" bread knife---good for slicing open a big water melon--and of course, bread.
I find knives at the best prices online. Check out Amazon.com. I have also ordered several from Cutlery and More--they carry a complete selection, and shipping is free if you spend at least $49--- here is their web address:
