Big Horn
Big Horn

What was the name of the only Union survivor of The Battle of Little Big Horn?
also known as Custer's last stand
By Union I assume you mean United States {As the Civil War was over by this time} Anyway, there are tons of scuttlebutt about this question. As far as "Tatonka's" answer,Major Reno and his unit were not even at the battle itself, they were busy annihilating all the women and children they could aim their rifles at approximately 15 miles away at the "Rosebud Creek" indian{Native Americans for all you politically correct people out there} encampment.Major Renos' battalion lost around 47 troops till he was rescued by the arrival of Capt. Benteen and his battalion. Meanwhile, the ever egotistical Lt. Colonel Custer{Yep,not General,He was a General during the Civil War} just had to take off with his battalion and take on all the Indian Warriors himself. Little did he know that the bulk of Indians that were supposed to be at the Rosebud camp showed up right in time to open up the proverbial "Can of Whoopass" on his unit. If Custer would have not been so macho and left behind those "silly heavy machines" as he was quoted to have called the reletavely new Gatling machine gun things might have turned out different.Anyway, rumour has it that 4 Indian scouts under Custers' employ, saw what was about to happen and "hit the trail" so to speek. One whos' name was Curly{seriously} gave his account of what he saw happen until he got the hell out of dodge. But he was not a U.S. trooper now was he? So he would not count as a U.S. survivor.I'm not sure about the other 3 scouts, but the fact is that ALL of Custers troops were killed and quite viciously mutilated.Supposedly, Custers body was not mutilated on several accounts. One being he was "Brave",{Which I call stupid} Others say it was because of his bright, reddish hair, which freaked out some of the Sioux. Another rumour is that the only thing missing from his body was his right pinky finger, taken by a squaw as she was pissed and wanted something to remember him by or whatever.Indians actually mutilated their enemy dead so they would'nt come back in the afterlife "complete".Also, some claim that a few horses were later found with U.S. brands on them and call them "survivors.I call them horses, but hey that's just me.
