Dipping calligraphy pen nib not working?

I used to practice caalligraphy when I was younger. I just had the kind with cartriges.

Today I bought a basic handle and thin nib. I have some ink from a garage sale.
It was fine when I started using it.
I got to a squiggly letter and It sort of caught on the paper and almost cut through.

Now it doesn't seem to want to work. i've tried bending the nib to be tighter, then looser.

What can/should i do?

Those pen nibs are made from spring steel. Once you bend them, they stay bent. They are made to flex, but not bend. Basically, you have ruined the nib you were using.

However, replacement nibs are not that expensive. Go to an art supply store and get a couple of new ones and practice. Try a couple of different sizes and shapes to see what kind of effects you can get.

Don't forget to get a jar of pen cleaning solution while you are there. Clean our nibs after each use to keep them working longer. And keep practicing.
